We’ve taken 20 empty shops in a 1930s market arcade in Brixton and created a rolling festival of pop-up performances and exhibitions, new shops, cafes and weekend events.

Dougald Hine

Dougald founded the Space Makers Agency in September 2009. This followed six months of organising Space Makers Network meetups around London, which brought together artists, community activists, architects, policy-makers and others.
Julia Shalet

Julia Shalet has played a key role in developing viable business models for empty shops projects. She is currently leading the Space Makers project at Brixton Village indoor market.
Gaia Marcus
Gaia is coordinator of the Space Makers Network. She organises our face-to-face meetups and manages the online community, which brings together hundreds of people around the UK who are involved in creating collaborative spaces for work and play.
Katrina Damianou
Katrina is currently on placement with Space Makers Agency from Central St Martins College of Art & Design, where she is completing an MA in Innovation Management.
Sara Haq
Sara is a photographer, visual artist and curator, based in South London. Her work explores intercultural relations and the relationship between art and social change.
Lloyd Davis
Lloyd is founder of the Tuttle Club, a weekly Friday morning meetup which brings together social media practitioners, social entrepreneurs and others experimenting with new ways of working.
Matt Weston
Matt started the Brighton Slack Space network and has been involved with the development of co-working spaces in the city. He previously founded the websites smallbusiness.co.uk and Business Bricks.
Sofia Bustamante
Sofia is a Brixton-based facilitator and social entrepreneur. Inspired by her experiences with the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, she is currently setting up London Creative Labs to incubate new social businesses based on local social needs.
Kalam Ali
Kalam has a background in raising funding for new businesses. He spends much of his time exploring new ideas around social innovation and digital technology, and has been an enthusiastic member of the Space Makers Network from its inception.
Jim Prevett
Jim is Emergent Technologies Producer at SPACE media in Hackney, where he is experimenting with a weekly co-working event. He was previously the Arts Programme Manager at Access Space, the UK’s longest-running free media lab.
